Lake Powell to Antelope Canyon: How to Do Both

Lake Powell and Lower Antelope Canyon are about 15 minutes apart by car. The Wahweap Marina area sits just northwest of Page, and our canyon check-in is a short drive southeast of town. You can comfortably do both in a single day.

Most visitors underestimate how close together everything in Page is. Here is how to fit the two together without rushing either one.

The easiest way to combine them

Book your canyon tour first and plan the lake around it. Tour times are fixed and sell out; the lake is flexible all day.

A morning canyon tour followed by an afternoon on the water works well in summer, when the light in the canyon is good earlier and the lake is more pleasant once the day warms up. In shoulder season, the reverse can be better.

Give yourself a real buffer between the two. Boat rentals and tours run on their own schedules, and marinas get busy in peak season.

What to do on the lake

• Boat tours from Wahweap or Antelope Point, including trips toward Rainbow Bridge National Monument.

• Kayaking, which gets you into the quieter side canyons. See our guide to kayaking Lake Powell.

• Antelope Canyon by water, which is the flooded lower end of the same canyon system and a completely different experience from the hiking tour.

• Glen Canyon Dam Overlook, a quick stop between the lake and town.

A note on lake levels

Lake Powell water levels change significantly year to year, and that affects which launch ramps and marinas are open. Check current conditions with the marina or the National Park Service before you plan around a specific access point.

Fitting in Horseshoe Bend too

Since Horseshoe Bend is roughly 12 minutes from the canyon, plenty of visitors do all three in a day. Budget about an hour for Horseshoe Bend including the walk from the parking area, and go early or late if you want softer light and fewer people.

Lower Antelope Canyon is on Navajo Nation land and requires an authorized Navajo guide. Book ahead, particularly in summer.
