Antelope Canyon From Las Vegas: Drive Time and Route

Antelope Canyon is about 275 miles from Las Vegas, or roughly four and a half hours of driving each way. The usual route runs I-15 north into Utah, then southeast through Kanab on US-89 to Page, Arizona.

Las Vegas is the single most common starting point for visitors to Lower Antelope Canyon, and the drive is genuinely one of the best parts of the trip. Here is what to expect.

Watch the time change

This trips people up more than anything else on the drive. Nevada is on Pacific time and does not observe daylight saving the way the Navajo Nation does. Depending on the season, Page can be one or two hours ahead of Las Vegas.

Your tour time is local to Page. Build that difference into your departure, and give yourself a buffer. Arriving an hour late because of a time-zone miscalculation is the most common reason someone misses a tour they already paid for.

The route

Head northeast out of Las Vegas on I-15, crossing the corner of Arizona through the Virgin River Gorge, which is a spectacular stretch of interstate in its own right. Continue into Utah toward St. George and Hurricane.

From there you cut southeast through Kanab and join US-89 south into Page. The last hour runs along the edge of Glen Canyon country, and you will see Lake Powell open up on your left as you approach town.

Many visitors route through Zion National Park on the way, which adds time but very little distance. If that appeals, plan on it being a two-day trip rather than a detour.

Can you do it as a day trip?

Technically yes. Realistically, it means about nine hours in the car plus your tour, and you will be driving at least one leg in the dark. Guests who do it usually tell us it was worth seeing and that they would do it differently next time.

If your schedule genuinely only allows one day, book an early-to-midday tour so you are not racing sunset on the way home, and account for the time change in both directions.

Lower Antelope Canyon is on Navajo Nation land and requires an authorized Navajo guide, so book before you leave Las Vegas. Summer tours fill weeks out.
