Las Vegas to Page, Arizona: Trip Planning Guide

Las Vegas is the most popular gateway to Antelope Canyon, and the drive covers some of the best scenery in the Southwest. The direct drive is about 275 miles and four and a half hours, but the trip is far better with a night or two built in.

How many days do you need?

Route one: the direct drive

I-15 north out of Las Vegas, through the Virgin River Gorge and into Utah, then southeast through Kanab on US-89 into Page. Four and a half hours, minimal fuss, and still a beautiful drive.

Take this route if your priority is the canyon and you are working with limited time.

Route two: through Zion

Same start on I-15, but exit toward Zion National Park and take UT-9 through the park, over the switchbacks and through the Zion–Mount Carmel Tunnel, before rejoining US-89 south to Page.

The mileage is similar but the time is not, because you will want to stop. Treat this as a full day with Zion as the main event, and stay in Page that night.

Note that oversized vehicles and large RVs need a tunnel escort at Zion, which costs extra and runs limited hours. Check before you commit to this route with a big rig.

Route three: the grand loop

For four or five days, run Las Vegas to Zion to Bryce Canyon, then south on US-89 to Page, and back. This is the classic Southwest circuit and it is popular for good reason. Each stop is different enough that they do not blur together.

A workable order is Zion first, Bryce second, Page third, since it keeps the driving legs short and ends you closest to the fastest way home.

Sequencing your days in Page

Once you are in town, the logistics are easy because everything is close together.

• Book your canyon tour first and build the rest of the day around it. Tour times are fixed and fill up; Horseshoe Bend does not.

• Horseshoe Bend is minutes from the canyon and takes about an hour including the walk from the parking area.

• Lake Powell deserves at least a half day if you want to get on the water. See combining Lake Powell with your canyon tour.

One thing to get right

Page observes Navajo Nation daylight saving and Las Vegas does not, so Page can be one or two hours ahead depending on the season. Your tour time is local to Page. Check it before you set an alarm.
